About the event
During this pre-holiday season, you might be looking to clean out some excess from your closet. Discolored, stained, or otherwise worn out shirts are often the first to go - in the trash or to the donation bucket. But now there’s a new option… Dye them a deep blue in this natural indigo dye event!
Bring your pre-loved clothes to Fabrica Moderna to give them a new chance at life with groovy tie-dye patterns and deep, denim blues.
We’ll start the workshop by making a small indigo mineral vat together so you know how to make your own at home (yeah, that means that you can always have natural blue on hand to dye fabrics and paper!). During this time I will also be demonstrating how to do some simple shibori folds for tie dye patterns.
In the second part of the workshop, we’ll put what we’ve learned to practice to give new life to your used clothes. I expect each person to be able to dye between 2-3 items (depending on the size) during this experience, but feel free to bring more and we’ll try to get to them!
All materials are included except for the garments to dye. Garments must be of a natural material (i.e. linen, cotton, viscose, etc). Each participant will go home with a booklet of instructions to make your own vat at home, the practical experience of making and dyeing in an indigo vat, and your revived garments.
Please note, it doesn’t HAVE to be preloved clothes. If you have something new that you would rather dye blue or are making a special gift for someone and want to dye the ribbon, paper, etc., that also works great!
